About The American Cancer Society

Together with our millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society’s mission is to save lives, celebrate lives and continue the fight against cancer! The American Cancer Society has contributed to the 29% decline in cancer death rates since 1991. We lead the fight by being the largest non-governmental supporter of cancer research in the United States. The American Cancer Society has funded over 4.9 billion dollars in cancer research since 1946, and just last year invested over 417.3 million dollars in research grants nationwide. The American Cancer Society also provides access to care programs for cancer patients to help ease the burden and ensure that every person has the ability to obtain the best care possible. Through our Road to Recovery program, Hotel Partners, Hope Lodge, 24/7 1-800 hotline, and cancer.org we are able to attack cancer from every angle.

In Florida Alone….

The American Cancer Society is currently funding 10.6 million dollars in cancer research grants in the state of Florida this year! Last year through our Road to Recovery program we provided over 50,000 rides to patients in our local communities; transportation to treatment is considered one of the largest barriers for patients seeking cancer treatment. The state of Florida has two Hope Lodge centers (located in Tampa, and Jacksonville) these centers allow patients access to long term stay facilities at no charge. Giving patients and caregivers the opportunity to not worry about hotel costs and the ability to stay in a comfortable environment. The Hotel Partners program gives patients similar access to hotels (where Hope Lodge centers are not located) to stay at a free or reduced rate while seeking treatment away from home. Last year this program save patients over $49 million dollars nationwide.
